I can't think of anything spookier than howling coyote skeletons. 

When I was in middle school my friend and I begged our parents to let us spend the night in a tent in the woods. Everything went great until the sun went down and this unearthly noise started echoing all around us. Our minds raced wondering what horrible thing it could be. Ghosts? UFOs? Around midnight we decided to make a break for it and spent the night inside. It turned out to be nothing more than a couple coyotes having a conversation. Those howls at night still give me the chills.

My topic was picked! I'm very excited about that even if they did spell my name wrong. I spell it with a y not an ie. Oh, well there are a lot of ways to spell Christy and they are all correct to somebody.

Generally I try to do a brand new piece of work for Illustration Friday but today that isn't possible. I'm leaving for Ann Arbor to go wedding dress shopping with my great friends/collage roommates. My friend that is getting married has cerebral palsy and keeps a funny and informative blog about the challenges of getting married with a disability called Disability and I Do. I've always thought she should put her dog to more use. She could go up steps, off road and through mud puddles. Are you reading this Melissa? We are getting Taden Marie a saddle!

If you haven't been in Grand Rapids for the past two weeks you may not have heard about ArtPrize. It is the largest award in an art competition in the world. For the past two weeks downtown has been flooded with people and not just the "artsy" type but families, grandparents and normal average Joes. Over 1700 artists entered and the public chose their favorite 10.  Tonight is the end of voting on the top ten so in honor of this amazing competition I give you my version of an ArtPrize tourist. He voted for Beili Liu and so did I.

For today's doodle I'd like to share a friendly pit bull playing Frisbee. There is a lot of controversy surrounding the pit bull breed. Some people love them, some hate them and some fight them. I prefer to stay out of most of it and just cuddle with my personal pit bull, Moose.

Illustration Friday: Star Gazing

This is the perfect Illustration Friday topic for me today. If tonight is clear my husband and I will be going to my brothers house to watch the perseid meteor showers. We will even be borrowing my parents telescope to check out some other celestial objects. If you want to see what is in the sky tonight check out skymaps.com. They have free, downloadable sky maps and lists of objects that can be seen with the naked eye, binoculars or telescope. While you're at it check out Astronomy Cast too. Electric Cheetah

I had the wonderful opportunity to hang my work at a local restaurant called The Electric Cheetah. Don't you just love the name? It is one of my favorite restaurants in Grand Rapids. They have fantastic soup and if you know me, I'm a sucker for soup. I hung a variety of work. Some of it is older and some of it is brand new. All of it is for sale. So please stop on by. Eat some food. Look at some art and maybe buy your favorite piece.
